Sri Lanka like any other country today is neither dangerous nor safe. But certainly worth watching."Sri Lanka like any other country has its share of risks”. Sri Lanka has been fighting a 25 year civil war with the LTTE(Liberation Tamil Tigers of Eelam)who have been claiming for a separate state in the Northan and Eastern parts of Sri Lanka. Today fighting is limited to a small parts of the Eastern province and the North Central province or Wanni district, which are tiger held territory. Although much of the Island remains safe, occationaly the North and East parts of the island are effected by fighting. And in a few occations Colombo, Sri Lankas' commercial capital was bombed by the LTTE. Tourists were never targeted in the fighting throught the years.

Economy of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is known as an agricultural country from the ancient time. The country has exported rice to Asian countries during the time period of King Parakramabahu. Apart from agricultural products, now the free trade zones plays a major role in the local economy. BOI approved companies established by the foreign investors helps the country to earn foreign currency towards the country. Gem plays another major role by attracting foreign businessmen towards the country .Tourist industry have opened lot of job opportunities to the locals as well. All these gateways are opened as a result of opening the country to an open economy paradigm. But still local agricultural products such as, Coconut, Tea, Rubber and fisheries plays a major role in the economy.
